A small taster of things to come in 2010 as we start to incorporate more vocal acoustics to the Fluid playlist…
Justin Ringle’s Horse Feathers returns with a double helping of songs: ‘Cascades’ pre-empts the follow-up to their well-received House With No Home album, which is due in April 2010.
Here the band’s admirably unvarnished Americana goes about its melancholy business with an arrangement boasting all the usual rustic Americana trappings, plus the notable addition of a saw.
It all sounds smashing – starkly effective and draped in backwoods authenticity. On the B-side, the band cover Gillian Welch’s ‘Orphan Girl’, which probably trumps the lead track, assisted greatly by a delicate, slowly swelling backdrop of strings and harmonium.
