It gives me great pleasure to announce that Nest’s new release ‘Retold’ will finally be with us on 31st Jan…
Here we have a very interesting collaboration from Otto Totland (one half of Deaf Center) and Serain label owner Huw Roberts that has an emotionally charged ‘filmscape’ quality running through it.
‘Retold’ is deeeeeep man. Simple as that! Combining elements of modern/neo classical structures and experimental ambient, the album is superb and comes highly recommended.
Nest is the collaborative project of Otto Totland (one half of Deaf Center, Type Records) and Serein label owner Huw Roberts. The two started working together after forging a strong friendship as former members of the Miasmah label.
Retold is an apt title for this body of work, at times light and serene, other times dark, brooding and sinister – Nest are expert storytellers.
Taking cues from film soundtracks and contemporary classical music, the story is woven using a myriad of instrumentation. Dulcet piano tones are backed by string and horn arrangements, unidentifiable plucked instruments and the sound of the Welsh harp: often heavily processed, Retold is an album that has as much in common with experimental electronic music as it does with the modern classical approach.
From the time Nest began writing together, one purpuse was clear; to produce beautiful music free of pretense, and they do it exceptionally well!

Sounds lovely. I’l be waiting for the CD release of this one.
Yes I can’t wait for this as well!
Five news tracks only, right? Since it incorporates their phenomenal debut release..
Hey Martin, that’s right, the 5 new pieces make up the second half of the album and double the length of the EP. We also wrote a revised edition of the track “Cad Goddeu” for this release.
can’t wait for my copy…
Hey Huw, good to hear from you. I’m looking much forward to the album. Any chance that it will make it on to vinyl at some point?
There are no plans at the moment to release ‘Retold’ on vinyl, but you will see Serein titles (including Nest) on vinyl at some point in the future.
Good news indeed – cheers
Can’t wait to get my pre-ordered copy of it. Hope the post won’t need more than a week or two…
