Minus Pilots
Very nice music that needs to be checked from Minus Pilots…
Last year, back when Minus Pilots was just me, I recorded an album which was intended as the follow up to “Superior Proof of Cinema” – I had the final cut ready in September and was planning on submitting it for consideration with Futurerecordings. Ultimately though, after listening back to it on countless occasions at the time, I decided that the record wasn’t what I wanted to put out so it was abandoned and I had a bit of a break before starting the recording process over again from scratch.
I was going to leave these “original” tape recordings unreleased but having not listened to the final album for four months, I checked it out again over Christmas and really got into it. I started to think that it nicely bridges the progress gap between “Superior Proof of Cinema” and what is now “Transmissions Minus The Pilots”; and where I hear a definite evolution in the sound when listening to SPOC and TMTP I don’t get that same feeling with this abandoned album – it sounds like the bastard son of SPOC to me – more scratchy and less refined – there was far more improvising going on during those Autumn sessions with lots and lots of tapes being burnt up, but there is definitely something there I love on this LP and while I’m not going to seek a label for it I am looking into the possibility and costs of doing a stupendously restricted CD release with some handmade artwork for it later this year.
