Let Us Be Thankful We Have Commerce

My Dance The Skull is pleased to present its step into the music world with the strictly limited cassette-only release of ‘Let Us Be Thankful We Have Commerce’ by electro-acoustic musician Talvihorros.

Ben Chatwin (aka Talvihorros) creates music that suggests an intricate succession of events set in motion by esoteric, untraceable forces. That’s my take on it, anyway. Born and raised in Portsmouth (south coast of England), Chatwin currently lives in London and has played in different bands and projects over the years, but finds himself at his “most productive working alone”, something you’re likely to be able to tell from listening to his music.

We’re talking quite cinematic soundscapes packed with tension and beauty in equal measures – no coincidence in there, though:

“Watching beautiful imagery or being moved by a powerful story usually encourages me to go and record something on a guitar or whatever”.

He even goes as far as listing film creators such as Werner Herzog and Harmony Korine alongside his music influences.
Talvihorros does venture a bit into post-rock turf (sometimes sounding like the most serene moments from Godspeed You Black Emperor or Rock Action-era Mogwai crossed with the soundtrack of a Takeshi Kitano movie), but seems to be more drawn to creating a suspended, unreal mood than reaching peaks of ear-splitting volume, something that makes him more akin to ambient musicians than space-rockers!
