Wes Willenbring – Minus Something

A lot of the music I listen to the most showcases minimalism in some form or another- sometimes by using as few instruments as possible, sometimes by using as few notes as possible, and sometimes both.
As a byproduct of this the songs tend to focus more on using space creatively instead of just stuffing as much sound into it as possible (which to me seems to be a way of simply trying to hide flaws). I especially love it when a song is limited to just a few elements and can still be exceptionally expressive. Here are a few of my favorites.
- Wes Willenbring
Glen’s Goo – The Dead Texan
Martha’s Dream – Nick Cave & Warren Ellis
Stray Dog – Grails
Etude no. 5 – Philip Glass
Mellothumb – Swans
Some Summers They Drop Like Flys – Dirty Three
Untitled 2 – Labradford
Saint Cloud – Six Organs of Admittance
Candy Girl – Low
I Was Deep In a Dream and I Didn’t Know It – Colleen
I Wrote This Song For The Girl Paris Hilton – Vincent Gallo
Radiator – Aphex Twin
Hunter – Portishead
Melancholia 1 - William Basinski

Nice mix, really enjoyed it.
