Great to see Ian Hawgood’s ‘Live Performances’ finally pressed and available through Under The Spire Recordings…
‘Live Performances contains two live shows I played in Sapporro and Tokyo. Both sets were based around single instruments with seemingly limited range, which I then processed just to see what I could do with them tonally. The show in Sapporro was based around 3 wind chimes, whilst the Tokyo show was based around a shruti box (an Indian drone instrument).
This is actually the first work I have done since taking almost eight months out from my own music, with a desire to go back to the sound installation work I did before I decided to release more studio-based work. Live Performances hopefully captures the more experimental and spontaneous side of music that dedicated work in the studio cannot.
Huge thanks to Chris at UTS, Ryo Nakata and the Sapporro crew, Wataru Osako and his family, David Wenngren, Dela and the CMFLG boys, Greg Davis, Warren Defever, Haruka Nakamura, the p*dis team, Pawn, Leonora and anyone who ever came to see one of my live shows.’ – Ian

Ian’s live shows are always changing and different. I love that he constantly evolves as a musician and a performer. It’s great that Under the Spire have documented this.
