This is a collection of tracks that have shaped my last few months. It contains compositions from friends and allies along with music that has been inspirational for my work, as well as a few rare and unreleased projects made by myself. Recorded to tape in April 2010. – Martin
Martin Herterich currently resides in Stockholm, Sweden. Working with ancient reel-to-reel tape recorders and primitive recording equipment, Herterich shapes piano compositions in a carefully sculpted web of hiss, echo and waves of analogue feedback.
Growing up in small Swedish town together with his parents grand piano, Herterich quickly got obsessed with the sound of the impressive instrument and the dusty time-worn amplifiers and tape recorders he found in his grandparents basement. Equally inspired by everything from the deep echoes of Basic Channel, the purity and simplicity of 80s punk and the harmonics of early religious music, Herterich’s music is constantly exploring the tension in the silence between the notes.
His latest recordings are available through labels such as Kalligrammofon, Kesh and Under the Spire.
