Baraku is a four track EP based around samples taken from the 1976 Japanese documentary God Speed You! Black Emperor…
Intended as a tribute to both the band and the film it took it’s name from, the project was recorded in two days using a Macbook, DVD player, an acoustic guitar, a bass, slide, e-bow, and effects pedals.
In regard to the legality of the samples – numerous attempts made to contact director Mitsuo Yanagimachi were unsuccessful, the film appears to be openly distributed and sold around the internet without a nominated rights holder and the project here has been designated Attribution Non Commercial through Creative Commons.
If you are a representative of Mr Yanagimachi or are offended in any way by the use of this material, please feel free to contact me through the link provided above. I will concede that my inability to read or speak Japanese may have hindered my ability to exhaustively research the above. It is intended as a homage and not a crass money grab.
Any monies generated by the sale of these files will be used to offset the modest cost of mastering the project to an acceptable audio standard (my standard, anyway). – Charlie
