Finglebone is an artist we have been following for some time now since receiving a demo of his abstract folk ep ‘Synapse’. His new release ’23′, available through Rural Colours, sees Finglebone take a u-turn from his manipulated guitar tones and instead moving in the direction of the ambient/drone genre…

Adam Varney’s project Finglebone started as soon as he learned to play the guitar in 1992. Adam would spend time recording using tape players and drew influences from folk songs underlined by teenage angst. As influences changed and interests broadened Adam began using electronic arrangements and drum machines to flesh out sounds exploring different atmospheres and textures.

To date Finglebone has released two ep’s. The first ‘empty rooms forgotten songs’ is a collection of instrumental guitar pieces with a deep sense of atmosphere and melancholy. Lou Barlow of Sebadoh and Dinosaur Jr said “that’s really good.. listened to all the songs, very relaxing”. The Second Ep was released on cult tape label Best Kept Secret and is called ‘Broken Satellite Sky’ this lent itself towards a slow-core ambiance and sonic textures that blended the feel of darkness and hope, serenity and angst.

His latest ep “23″ is a more ambient/drone experimental collection of songs that builds up layers of spectral guitar and field recordings whilst stitching a plethora of light melodies through-out. – Rural Colours
