Some words from Frederic…

Since the beginning of Spring I have been working on the original soundtrack of ‘The Freemartin Calf’, a 40 minute new experimental fiction by Jayne Amara Ross. The piece is divided into 7 chapters and describes with poetry a beautiful handprocessed Black & White super 8 and 16mm film presenting a day in the life of a mother and her daughter, both under the influence of their own modified perception of reality.

‘The Freemartin Calf’ includes more than 38 minutes of original music, recorded in my ‘Magnum Diva’ studio in Montmartre, Paris, with the awesome Gaspar Claus on cello, the talented Maxime Champesme on sound-design and mixing, all surrounded by the haunting poetry of the filmmaker herself, Jayne Amara Ross.

The movie was screened for the first time recently at la Cinémathèque française for the evening ‘Les songs d’une nuit d’été’ curated by Nicole Brenez and myself. I was deeply moved by the result and I’m really proud to be part of this adventure. I would like to thank Jayne, for asking me to compose these tracks.
