Segue is the minimalist/ambient solo project of Jordan Sauer based in Washington DC. Sauer creates his music with a blend of instruments rangeing from electric guitar to didgeridoo and found sounds. With a run of critically acclaimed previous releases on labels such as Resting Bell and Slow Flow Records, this latest work on the always essential Under The Spire comes highly anticipated.
‘We Learn To Forget’ consists of three tracks, each of which is characterised by a delicate and uplifting audial experience and a certain tangible uniformity of tone, as if every successive work was created in one sitting on one set of instruments.
Opening track ‘A Different Point Of View’ passes seven minutes repeating a beautiful synth refrain over ad infinitum. Sauer utilises familiar minimalist and repetition techniques, analogous to some earlier Eluivum material. Though this opening piece is perhaps just a hint too repetitive, it is special nonetheless.
As the second and third tracks continue in a similar vein, they are executed in an even more successful fashion, by the closing piece, the listener is left moved by this remarkably positive and optimistic uplifting experimental music.
‘We Learn To Forget’ is available for purchase from Under The Spire now and is released on 3″CDr in hand stamped and numbered recycled card packaging with two inserts in a run of 100 copies only.
