Simmer ’til Thickened: A Front & Follow selection

Front & Follow began in 2007 as part of the Watson Marriage Experiment (2006-) as an elaborate and ill-thought through endeavour started with my wife Helen. Since 2007, the label has produced a series of experimental music projects and releases covering a range of styles and featuring a whole host of artists across the globe, including debut releases from Sone Institute, Andy Nice (Tindersticks) and Elite Barbarian (Rocket Number Nine). In 2009 and 2010, we ran the ’14 Versions of the Same EP’ project by Long Division with Remainders, which saw artists (including Leyland Kirby and Isnaj Dui) remix core audio files to create their own EPs, which are now collected together in a 4CD box set.

Most recently, The Doomed Bird of Providence have released their debut album, which is now followed by a series of remixes of the track Fedicia Exine. The future will see an EP by BLK w/BEAR, based on their interpretations of tracks from Yonokiero’s Blue Apples album, the second project from Long Division with Remainders, and the second full release from Sone Institute. After that, we’re making a film about ice skating. No, really.

This mix covers the first 3 and a half years of Front & Follow, showcasing how we never got our act together and focused on one thing at any one time. That said, somehow its worked out ok so far…
