50 For 2011
As we draw closer to the end of another year, an aching feeling weighs heavily upon our shoulders. The heaviness we talk of is knowing that a selection of music from the past 12 months needs to be listed and shared. Whilst we enjoy doing this to a certain extent, there is something about the whole process that is rather draining. This is mainly due to the fact that we have witnessed another solid year of artistic creativity and trying to make a shortlist means that way too many great albums get left out. In the end we made sure to stay away from checking what other web sites have been selecting and just went with our gut feeling. The end result is a list of albums that have been a steady source of inspiration through what has been a year of many changes.
The no.1 slot from Paul Jebanasam is one of those releases that simply blew us away from the first listen. Live recordings have always been something that intrigue us. The process of then bringing a recording to the CD/Digital realm doesn’t always work; sometimes they come off and other times they fail miserably. ‘Music For The Church Of St. John The Baptist’ however is a performance that is to be admired and cherished. Sit back, get comfortable and let Paul’s stunning compositional qualities commence.
Many thanks to everyone that has supported us throughout the year.

What a nice surprise in the top spot! 2011 was a great year for music ~ I ended up buying a few hundred releases myself! Thank you to all the artists, labels, and websites (especially Fluid Radio!) who compose, perform, distribute and call our attention to such amazing work, and all the fans who keep artists encouraged. So many of you do it out of the goodness of your hearts, which makes it even more special. Wishing you all continued inspiration ~ Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Wonderful list… I will definitely have to check out the ones here that I missed.
And for the record, Dan, Hummingbird’s Remix album would easily make my 2011 list. I’m stunned I haven’t seen it on any lists yet…!!!
That is a pretty awesome choice for number one indeed! and I love the inclusion of Daniel Thomas Freeman’s “The Beauty of Doubting Yourself” in the top 10. Would’ve liked to see Kreng’s album on the list though.
the willamette and daniel freeman recs are great! wonderful list!
@ Rich/Bryan/Tarik: Thanks guys
@ Mohammed Yeah Kreng could have made it easily. Just way to many great releases this tear!
“this tear!”
how nice said
would love to see a physical release from the Church Of St. John The Baptist, though. i maybe bought 49 of these 50… and i’m still waiting for a Christina Vantzou on vinyl.
Great Daniel! Very similar to my Top40.
Fantastic choice for #1.
On the “what about x?” front: Black Swan’s The Quiet Divide and Aquarelle’s Sung in Broken Symmetry will find themselves in my top 10 by the time all is said and done.
Great list, very much inline with much of my own. One tiny thing though, isn’t the Deaf Center from 2010 though?
Apologies for the above post, I am getting confused.
