Time to dip into your pocket, find some readies and donate to a very good cause. For just a measly £6 you’ll get 17 tracks of flavoursome goodness from around the globe and a warm feeling that you’ve done rather a good deed – sounds like a pretty fair deal to me…
Edinburgh’s mini50 records have pulled together a host of artists in aid of Crisis Counselling – a Scottish charity that helps children and adolescents affected by domestic violence, self harming, bullying, exclusion, addictions and abuse – helping restore healthy, safe communities and family systems. Crisis saved the life of one of the artists on this release and continue to save more although the service is coming under increased financial pressure and without support may cease to exist….still reaching for that measly £6 I hope?
‘After A Long Dream Of Sleep’ takes in a wide selection of musical genres from the sidechained wonky beats of Spokes”Give It Up To The Night’ (Fieldhead Remix) to a deliciously emotive slice of reduced ambience from Cory Allen.
Yellow6 provide a beautifully delicate guitar / piano work out building into a cloud of distortion and feedback whereas Richard A Ingram keeps things hyper minimal with bent out of shape drooping tones. Talvihorros splays wide panned distortion against scraped, plucked and strummed instruments which veer from a barely hanging together cacophony to a smooth falling into place with underpinning from a warm moogy bassline.
Antonymes hangs delicately subdued piano against solitary droning strings whilst Glacis contribute an edgy piece that comes off like a slightly nightmarish Sigur Ros. Coughed up that six quid yet??
Closing things off we find sublime work from Caught in the Wake Forever with bell sounds gently pulsing across a single drawn out note from which follows a folk and cello tinged compilation closer from the excellent Hiva Oa.
Really, there’s no excuse – hit up that bandcamp link with immediate effect and part with a little bit of dough. Clearly it’s all for a great cause but alongside that you’ll also be getting an audible feast of fine new music plus discovering a whole heap more behind the 17 featured artists. Now – hop to it!
