My good friend Alex over at FRUK has put together a fantastic mix which features music and spoken poetry inspired by the work of James Reindeer and his first official spoken word album ‘Shallow Pools’…

Conceived and written during a two week period in the spring of 2012, ‘Shallow Pools’ is a collection of one hundred short poems by James Reindeer, created using an old mechanical typewriter and subsequently recorded during the early hours of one night at Decorative Stamp Headquarters.

All the tracks were chosen in response to each reading. It features music from A Band Of Buriers, The Beguilers, Quickbeam, Meg Baird, David A Jaycock, I Am Oak, Bard and more. It was a great experience putting it together. The title is an extract from of one of the poems:

…a distant place now,
a fading photograph in a fond book of memories…

If you like your alternative folk music then you really can’t go wrong in checking out the FRUK web site that covers reviews, interviews, mixes, news, etc. If that wasn’t enough they have also just set up a new online store that will grow and have some fantastic releases being stocked over the coming months.
