ABC’s Sound Quality recently captured an interesting live performance from two unlikely collaborators; 72 year old New Zealand born pianist/composer Mike Nock, regarded as one of the pre-eminent jazz identities in Australia, and drummer Lawrenz Pike, best known for his skin work with Triosk and PVT.

The two have released an album, ‘Kindred’, which simultaneously delivers on and confounds the expectations of an intergenerational teacher/student dynamic. Recorded in two sessions over a couple of hours, the album was put together twelve months ago and recently released through FWM Records.

The two pieces, found HERE and HERE are long form minimalism of a very high standard. Worth a watch.
