Untitled…

I put this mix together to highlight the output of the enigmatic ‘untitled’ imprint. Founded last year, the label has released 8 eps so far – every one of them untitled in all respects: no artist info, no track info, no label info. Every release is packaged in plain card with four photographic prints stapled to the interior of the packaging. Simple, anonymous, perplexing.

Musically, the label’s output predominantly touches on field recordings, neo-classical sounds, and sonic ephemera. It doesn’t sound a million miles away from the Cotton Goods imprint – and I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that some of the artists have had releases on that label too.

The label is probably not for everyone – I certainly have found some releases ‘hard going’ (I’m looking at you third release) – but there’s enough touches of beauty and engaging sound art to keep me coming back and finding new experiences amongst the nuanced, minimal sounds.

For this mix I just set up the CDJs and did a one-take recording.

A tracklisting is redundant – and I’ve forgotten which tracks I used exactly but I’ve definitely included tracks from every release here. I think the mix gives a good overall impression of the label’s aesthetic and sounds. If you missed these releases when they came out then you’ve got next to no chance of tracking them down – so this may be the only time you get to hear them… enjoy.
