Nicola Ratti

Nicola Ratti opened proceedings at Cafe OTO on 26.10.11 with a brief but highly calibrated set just over 15 minutes long. Having to forgo his signature contact mic onto vinyl for the occasion he opted for a sound reminiscent of early Italian electronic music, recently rediscovered thanks to a stellar archival work by his label Die Schachtel, with just enough of a modern twist to provide an ideal link between Tony Conrad’s furious violin and Lawrence English’s concerto for four organs. – Gianmarco Del Re
