Sonic Screens

Milan/Rome based Matteo Milani and Federico Placidi are sound artists whose work spans from digital music to electro acoustic improvisation. Together they formed Unidentified Sound Object, which was born from the desire to discover new paths and non-linear narrative strategies in both aural and visual domains.

On Saturday 1st of December, U.S.O. Project, presented Sonic Screens in collaboration with O’ and Die Schachtel with three premieres by Agostino Di Scipio (“Two Sound Pieces with Repertoire String Music” for any number of bowed string instruments and live electronics), Andrea Valle (“Dispacci dal fronte interno” for violin, cello, spatialized electronics and printers) and Federico Placidi (“TimeCapsule” for violin, cello and live electronics) all performed by the Vienna String Duo of Èdua Amarilla Zádory, on violin and Ana Topalovic, on cello. The evening ended with two live sets by Thoranna Bjornsdottir aka Trouble and Massimilano Viel when the gallery was plunged into darkeness.

Matteo Milani and Federico Placidi also run the electroacoustic label Synesthesia. The main goal being to retrieve the late Renaissance praxis of Ricercare – devised as an exploration of a technical device by playing it and subverting it in different ways. Here’s hoping the Sonic Screen material will end up featuring on one of their future releases.
