Recursive Space invites you to an evening of free improvisation, live electronics and intense guitar drones. Performances by Tropic of Coldness (BE), Oliver Barrett (UK), Pascal Savy (UK) and The Inventors of Aircraft (UK) - visuals by Laid Eyes and DJ sets by Rodolphe d’Audiffret.
Oliver Barrett
Oliver Barrett is a musician and illustrator based in London. Having put out several releases under his ‘Petrels’ moniker on various labels internationally including Denovali, Tartaruga, and Patient Sounds, he recently performed cello on Duane Pitre’s latest album, Bridges. As a composer he has had work commissioned by the BFI, London Word Festival and the Southbank Centre amongst others. A multi-instrumentalist, Barrett’s musical practice spans solo electronics, acoustic improvisation, band work, and sound art, to orchestral arrangements and song, drawing influences from a broad spectrum. For this show he’ll be doing a solo cello and electronics set. www.floatinglimb.com
Pascal Savy
Pascal Savy is an electronic music composer who lives and works in London. He creates organic ambient and drone music as a way to reflect on erosion, transition and decay. He usually eschews melody and rhythm and utilizes tones and noise to explore atmospheres rather than narratives. His work often combines acoustic and electronic sources generated from pick-ups, coils, short-wave radios or FM synthesisers and more recently home-made electronics. www.staticsound.net
Tropic Of Coldness
Tropic of Coldness is a Brussels based duo formed in November 2011 by David and Giovanni. Tropic of Coldness combine improvised guitar-based drones / ambient / electro-acoustics sounds with processed field/ambient recordings. They released the E.P. Commuting in March 2012, firstly as digital download and then as CD for the label Cathedral Transmissions. “Commuting” has been well received by the press and was included in the The Year’s Best Winter Music 2012 by A Closer Listen and in the Long List of 2012 Best Albums by Fluid Radio. Their second release, Unrelated Causalities, was issued in February 2013 as digital download and as 100 copies limited edition CD-R. Tropic of Coldness have been performing in different locations (clubs, art galleries,…) across Europe (Germany, Austria, France, Belgium, The Netherlands). www.tropicofcoldness.wordpress.com
The Inventors of Aircraft
The Inventors of Aircraft is the music project of composer / producer / sound-scaper Phil Tomsett. The Inventors create melodic and evocative sound-worlds with a combination of digital and acoustic instruments with the philosophy being very much ‘the studio is an instrument.’ For this event he will use elements of recent studio work which have been reconfigured into a live set up for an improvised performance. Expect deep clanks and thumps, low key synths and reverb drenched strings. www.theioa.com
