Alessio Ballerini, Beautiful Ground - antique piano in old church

Beautiful Ground

Alessio Ballerini’s new album “Beautiful Ground”, out on Oak Editions on 28 February 2015, is the second of a new crop of fine releases by the Italian label.

The album is a result of an artist residency where Alessio Ballerini recorded sounds and stories during a walking trail of 250 km in 20 days. The music was realized as part of the ‘Bioculture / Artwalks with wine’ project www.bioculture.it.

The creation of musical compositions starting from the recorded sounds is an imaginative transformation of the landscape and the sound elements that most strongly express the identity of the communities Ballerini came across. This change projects the listener into parallel worlds, transcending the reality we experience in everyday life. Ballerini gives his listeners a work of strong emotional impact and creates sounds that only a step-by-step experience could produce, showing us a new land emerging from the old. He mixes the soundscape of the Marche region with synthetic parts of electronic music, and old Italian keyboard instruments from different periods recorded in the church of San Francesco in Camerino and in the church of Cossignano. These included organs, harpsichords and pianos.
