The Bramall Music Building at the University of Birmingham plays host to three days of music, conversation and ideas as BEAST (Birmingham ElectroAcoustic Sound Theatre) present BEAST FEaST 2016: ‘Real/Unreal’. The festival features a large number of performances, presentations, and installations in the fields of electronic, experimental, and acousmatic music.
Concerts will take place using BEAST’s multichannel sound system in the building’s Dome Room and Elgar Concert Hall. World Soundscape Project director and granular synthesis pioneer Barry Truax will be presenting the world premiere of his new work ‘The Garden of Sonic Delights’, and BEAST founder and former director Jonty Harrison will be performing his piece ‘Going / Places’ on the BEAST sound system for the first time. Other performers include Manfredi Clemente, Leah Reid, Natasha Barrett, Luca Danieli, Savannah Agger, Ben Peers, Emma Margetson, Annie Mahtani, and Helene Hedsund.
The festival features installations from Alexander Pospischil, John Kefala Kerr, and Tony Morton. Artists and researchers will be discussing their work in a number of presentation sessions.
BEAST FEaST 2016 takes place from 28-30 April, and festival passes cost just £25. If you’re at all interested in electronic composition, field recordings, or just good imaginative and exploratory music, this is one not to miss!
