Founded back in 2000 in Bratislava, the NEXT Festival of advanced music is an annual celebration of exploratory music and sound art: from electronic experimentation and freeform improvisation to audiovisual projects, bringing together artists who push the boundaries of music.
Taking place over four days, from the 23rd to the 26th of November, this promises to be another vintage year with a stellar lineup that includes Robert Henke: Lumière II, Thighpaulsandra, Chris Watson, Amnesia Scanner & Bill Kouligas present Lexachast, Sharif Sehnaoui / Tony Elieh / Chris Corsano, Jean-Luc Guionnet, Vlad Kreimer, Thor Magnusson, Jamka and many more artists.
As a precursor to the 17th edition, the NEXT Festival is bringing to London’s Cafe OTO a group of artists who have performed at previous editions, and will also introduce some of their new international collaborations.
Playing on Saturday 15th of October will be the Slovak composer and saxophonist Miro Toth together with Paul Abbott and Tom Wheatley, Lucia Udvardyová aka Palmovka, who’ll be mixing improvised electronics with field recordings and custom-made hardware, and Valerio Tricoli rather promisingly paired with Danish noise wielder Puce Mary. The London leg of the NEXT festival will also see a welcome return of the hypnotic and mesmerizing collaboration between electronic music maestro Sote and the Slovak visual artist Stix.
