In 2018 Brian Eno’s legendary album “Ambient 1: Music For Airports” reaches its 40th anniversary. The genre to which the album gave its name has seen many changes since then, growing, mutating, and spawning a number of sub-genres while never quite gathering a mainstream following. The academic conference “Ambient@40” aims to shed light on this music over two days of performances and presentations.
The conference’s organising committee consists of renowned composers and academics Monty Adkins, Simon Cummings, Kristina Wolfe, and Rupert Till, and they are currently inviting proposals from academics, independent scholars, research students and practitioners who are interested in re-appraising ambient music in relation to Eno’s milestone release.
The conference will take place from 23-24 February 2018 at The University of Huddersfield.
